About Katie Kingman
Hello!
Let me tell you a little about myself. I live in Phoenix, Arizona and spend my days caring for my two toddlers and six cats. If my husband is willing to try my food, I take care of him too. I teach high school English; my classes range from British Literature to pop culture studies to advanced composition. This year, I'm trying my hand at teaching creative writing! When there's a free moment, I escape into other worlds like the Whedonverse, Middle Earth, zombie filled Georgia, or Westeros. My most current obsession is The 100, but my number one true love is Battlestar Galactica. |

At night I turn on my Bear McCreary or Braveheart Pandora channel and forget about the world. And, to quote Frozen, I write until the sky's awake.
Last summer, something changed in me. I've always been a voracious reader, but a switch had been flipped. Inspired by Marie Rutkoski's beautiful The Winner's Curse, no longer did my mind tell me to read, but to write. The anxiety I felt when I read other's words propelled me; it was my turn.
For years a document had been sitting on my desktop with no words, just a title: It Takes Place on a Ship. I didn't know that it was a part of a larger idea I'd been imagining since my college years, or that I actually meant spaceship. But last summer, the characters emerged and filled that ship with voices that wouldn't be silenced until I sat at my computer and filled the blank pages in front of me. Thus began The Seven Skies!
